Social Enterprise » FAQs

Why is STEP involved in social enterprise?

In the current climate within the community sector, funding is becoming more scarce and competition for any pool of funding is fierce. By developing social enterprise initiatives, STL can ensure longevity of the STEP organisation through income generation that will allow existing unfunded support and project work to continue and develop. Such enterprises will also increase the employment opportunities offered by the organsiation.

Will STL keep profits they generate by community enterprise work?

No - the activities undertaken by STL are for the purpose of raising funds to support the work done by STEP and to provide resources for salaries, equipment, project running costs etc. All profit is fed back into the organisation.

Will STL be developing any further social enterprises?

STL will be continually seeking new and innovative ways to generate income for the benefit of the organisation. Ideas that do not compromise the ethos of the organisation will continue to grow and those which are deemed most suitable and most likely to succeed will be acted upon.
