This will be of interest to many community members and support organisations in the Mid-Ulster area with the delivery of key messages relevant to today's society. The 2013 documentary film by Heather Kirkpatrick follows the arrival of Tasmania's first detention centre through the eyes of local Christian woman and knitting club member Mary and Muslim Afghan Hazara asylum seeker Mohammad, who is detained inside the centre, as they connect through the gift of a knitted beanie. It has won acclaim across the globe and was the winner of the 2014 Special Award United Nations Media Prize. Roisin McAliskey, STEP continues "We really hope that people will take advantage of the opportunity to see this film that sets to challenge attitudes and provoke debate. This is a different type of event for STEP and we are delighted to work with the NIHE on bringing such a highly acclaimed documentary to the doorstep of the community in Mid-Ulster and we hope to provide further screenings for school children attending local secondary schools in the near future. I would advise anyone free on the evening to book their place as soon as they can". Anyone wishing to attend the screening should contact Paula at the STEP office paula@Stepni.org or on 028 87 50211 as soon as possible as seating is limited. Refreshments will be served at 5.30pm before the screening of the show.
